Krav Maga Xtreme
Create a brand, establish an online presence, and migrate all remaining members into the new database between the time of the split and the next billing cycle (2 weeks).

Because of a business partnership disbanding, one side of the separation had no name, no brand, no online presence, and hundreds of members that needed to be transferred seamlessly from the old database to the new one.
The owner and I decided that the members’ billing situation came first, so I had called the database company, facilitating the split and migration of accounts. The two former partners, with my assistance, sorted through which members were going with whom.
This sorting and migration process took about one week.
Branding and Social Media Presence:
The new business needed a name and a logo. The owner brought to me a sketch of how he wanted the logo to look like. I kept the design as close to the original sketch as possible, always checking in with the owner on every iteration I finished. Once we settled on the final design, we could now establish our presence online and in-person through apparel, banners, and signage.
As for online presence, I first created the website, with Weebly, so that current members have a place to check the class schedule during the transition.
Then, I established social media presence, creating accounts on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
After, we focused on community unity and growth, encouraging members to train often, apply to test for a higher rank, throw holiday parties, participate in outside-gym events as a team (Tough Mudder, Spartan Race), and open house events
KMX is still active today.
What I learned:
I would like to say that I had the “startup experience”: taking a product/business from the ground and building the foundations. There was many a time when I had to balance being the manager of the people and the manager of the staff, in addition to being the marketer and salesperson.
This project is what got me interested in UX: I enjoyed the process of creating and being challenged by working with or around what was known and unknown. I learned to “roll with the punches” and to be fearless when asking (many) questions.
I also realize that, no matter what time limit I have, I will get things done, and will always try to find ways to improve, even after shipping the product.
